connects to hub but no internet access
OK here goes, A friend of mine has a BT HH3 which is working fine for a number of machines in his home on the wireless network. His problem is that one laptop connects to the router but gets no internet access, this is the same whether he uses a wire or wireless. looking in the network connection shows the connection to the router but has a yellow triange with exclamation mark on the router to internet line. I ran IP config and found that both adapters have valid IP addresses, subnets and gateways. 192.168.1.x 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.254 I tried doing a release and renew using ipconfig /release etc Turned off the firewalls tried:- _______________________________ Suggestion 3: Reset TCP/IP and DNS ===================== 1. Click the Start button, click "All programs", and click "Accessories". 2. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 3. Please enter the following commands, and press enter after each NETSH INT IP RESET IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS 4. Restart the computer to check the issue. _________________________________________ with no joy. We also tried doing a full reset of the router by pressing the reset button in with a paperclip :-) The odd thing here for me is I get the same result on both the wire (plugged PC to home hub) and the wireless, connected to router but not to internet.... I have not tried a static IP address because IP config reports everything OK. Any ideas would be much appreciated, Thanks, Simon Update- tried to connect the laptop to a wireless hotspot on an Iphone, same result connects to phone but no internet access so it looks like a problem with laptop software or hardware.....

Can you do an IPCONFIG /ALL and post the results? Make sure the DNS on the adapters are not static. Make sure you did not uninstall one of thise lovely AV's that disable Internet upon uninstall. Make sure your AV is up to date, some disable surfing if they are outdated. Miguel Fra | Falcon IT Services, Miami, FL www.falconitservices.com | www.falconits.com | Blog

Hello, Can you verify that one of the working computers has the same default gateway and DNS of 192.168.1.254? Also, can you ping 127.0.0.1? Can you ping 192.168.1.254? Can you ping 8.8.8.8? Can you try to update the AV? Even if you have no access, the AV should update if that's whats causing the problem. Lastly, in IE OPTIONS -> Connections -> LAN SETTINGS Make sure Proxy is unchecked.Miguel Fra | Falcon IT Services, Miami, FL www.falconitservices.com | www.falconits.com | Blog

We are back on-line :-) Thanks to everyone who considered possible solutions and special thanks to those who gave us things to try. Its the simple things that should be checked first I guess.... Went to system restore and noticed a restore point from 16th August that said critial updates also a restore point for 14th.. Restored to the 14th and 'heypresto' connected to the Internet......... Just need to find out which critical update caused the issue so it doesn't get installed again. Thanks again, Simon

A critical update should not cause this problem. I would run a full scan on your computer. MS Security Essentials Malwarebytes Anti Malware Miguel Fra | Falcon IT Services, Miami, FL www.falconitservices.com | www.falconits.com | Blog
