connecting to domain file share
I have a person who is trying to map drives to our work domain, not join the domain. THis has worked fine for everyone else. If we type in \\filer1\blabla the user is prompted for the domain\userid and then the passcode. We are getting system error 5 has occurred access is denied. The home pc is using windows 7 home premium. The same person is able to connect to my work pc and log on. any ideas what is wrong? thanks Miltonregards Milton

Server could be set to allow only secure communication. Share level and ntfs permissions need to have user "everyone" with appropriate access granted. (ex. Read, Write, etc)

I should have said before that other windows 7 OSs like prof, ultra are connecting to the same share without problem. The problem seems to be either with Windows 7 home premium itself or with the PC fire wall which is disabled.regards Milton

Since the other computers are probably part of the domain they might be able to respond to the server request to run ipsec secure connection while the computer which is not part of the domain won't be able to do that. Try this simple steps and see if they make any difference Under "network and sharing center" "View your active connections" make sure that the computer (windows 7 home) is not connected to a "public network" (domain, or home should work) Under "Change Advanced Sharing settings" (if you have taken domain, then you need to enable this for domain, or if you selected home then you need to enable this for home) enable "Turn on network discovery" "Turn on file and printer sharing" If it still doesn't work try to enable the firewall.

Hi, The following reasons may cause to the error message: 1. Time Synchronization problem. 2. Missing permission to access the remote computer (Share, NTFS, GPO). 3. Firewall and/or third party product may eliminate connection to the remote computer. 4. The computer account isn't disable (Or have expired computer account password) or doesn’t exiting in the domain. 5. Active Directory replication problem may occur.Juke Chou TechNet Community Support
