computer shuts off for no apparent reason__
I use windows XP and play world of warcraft and at one point the computer would shut off for no apparent reason while I was playing. now the computer will shut off at any time. heavy use doen't seem to be the problem as it will shut off while no one is using it. cord connection isn't a problem as they have been removed and replaced numerous times to attempt to remedy this problem. I have multiple fans in the computer so overheating shouldn't be the issue. any answers are appreciated.1 person needs an answerI do too

my inclination would be that the cpu and or the ram is overheating and the system automatically shuts down. however, you indicated that you have plenty of fans in place. what you might try to do is to simply open up the side panel of the unit and point a desk fan at the motherboard. another thing you might look into is if you have enough ram installed to play the game. although the game likely states how much ram is required to play the game, such requirments don't include the amount of space used by additional processes, like from antivirus programs. sometimes a video card needs to be added to the motherboard to provide additional memory and video power for games like yours. another step you can take is to initiate a "clean boot" and see if by disabling additonal programs from starting with the o.s. will help give your system more power to run the program. yet another step you can initiate is to ensure your pagefile/virtual memory is not set to "auto". instead of giving the o.s. the additional burden of resizing the virtual memory automatically, simply set the virtual memory a fixed/custom size. the size i suggest the virtual memory is min=2 and max = (amount of your ram x 1.5) . the max is calculated as in this sample: if you have 1 gig of ram installed, then set the max size for the virtual memory to 1500. also, you may want to temporarily install a third part software that monitors the ram/memory usage. it may reveal how much free ram you have while playing the game. so it the little monitor consitently shows that your game is using nearly all the ram, then you may simply need to add more ram/memory to your system. ~db db`...> DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com "share the nirvana mann" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > >
