How large is your hard drive and how much free space is on it? You can see this if you go to My Computer and right-click on the icon for your hard drive (usually C:), left-click on Properties. The request to run Chkdsk /f indicates operating system file corruption. This can be caused by a too-full hard drive and/or a failing hard drive. Back up your data to external media like an external hard drive NOW. If the computer's hard drive is too full, delete data from it (music, pictures, videos, etc.) after it is safely copied to an external hard drive. Uninstall unnecessary programs, do maintenance to remove temporary and temporary Internet files. If the hard drive isn't very full, test it as follows:Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility downloaded from the drive mftr.'s website or use Seagate's SeaTools For DOS. You will create a bootable CD with the file you download. You will need third-party burning software to do this such as Roxio, Nero, or the free ImgBurn. Burn as an image, not as data.http://www.imgburn.com http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/seatooldreghttp://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=201271 (how-to)Boot with the CD you made and do a thorough test of the drive. If it fails any physical tests, replace it.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Based on your description, it sounds as if a chkdsk /f has been scheduled to run, but has not yet been completed. Once scheduled from within the operating system (Windows), chkdsk will want to run at the next system boot. With the /f switch, chkdsk will attempt to fix errors on the volume being checked. Try re-booting your computer & allow chkdsk to run. Note that it will take some time to complete.
