change boot drives
I have 2 hard drives, Vista is on C: and I installed Windows 7 on my D:, everything was going fine as long as I had the beta version of Win 7. I updated and pre-purchased Win 7 Ultimate. Now I get a black screen when I try to turn on my computer, it is trying to boot up on the C: Vista. How do I change this to make the computer boot to my D:? When I look at My computer disk management - I see this VISTA (C:)224.04 GB NTFSHealthy (System, Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary PartitionIs it possible to change my boot drive to D: Windows 7?Thanks so much, bcsurvior

Your drive C: is set as a single-boot system, so you can't switch to D: during the boot process (as in dual-boot installations). If the partition info shows the same for your D: drive (or does "Computer" or "Disk Management" not even see this drive?), you can change the BIOS boot order to boot from D: first.Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

Sanmartin,My computer does recognize my d:(Windows7), How do I change the BIOS bot order to boot from d:? What happens, when I try to boot my computer, I get a black screen with a blinking cursor.I have to hit the esc key to get to my boot order list, select the second drive which is my d:There are no optioins for my changing this boot order in the bios setup, it only shows cd roms, usb keys and 1 drive which is the c:This is a brand new problem, when I do a restore from over a month ago, the same thing happens. Please, if you have any suggestions as how to fix this, I would REALLY appreciate it!Thanks so much, bcsurvivorOh yeah, this is a HP Pavilion dv71135nr.

Hi survivor,if you couldn't solve your problem in the meantime, please answer a few questions: (1) Your HP Pavilion is a laptop that came with a 250 GB HDD, right? I would think that your second HD is external then. How is it connected to the pc (bus)? (2) If the previous installation (with the Beta) worked, how did you "update" that installation to Windows 7 RC? (3) If you see your drive D: from your Vista drive, what does Disk Management say about it? (The same like about C: or anything different?)Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

hi bcsurvivor,I don't know why you can boot from D: if C &Dare on a hdd, you can try to write nt60 bootcode to C: and MBR too and review the BCD storage at c:\bcd\ to see wether the boot path to vista was right. If C&D are 2 Hdds then disconnect the WInxpHdd and try to boot Vista as single Hdd (vista become C: then).Try to think about what you've done before thatoccurs. Write it here.

I have solved my problem!! I'm so happy I could just scream!I simply downloaded and installed EasyBCD 2.0 Beta,I ran the program, and just like majic - my computer is fixed.I just don't know why it took me so long to stumble over the free program, that is so simple, it worked for me.I strongly suggest that anyone that is experiencing booting issues, try this program 1st. I had worked on this for weeks, it was driving me nuts, and I can't believe how simple the answer was. Thanks for all your suggestions, and I'm thankful for all of your wisdom.bcsurvivor

No, my 500 gig hard drive is a drive that I purchased and installed. It is a second permanent drive.
