cannot wake up after a few hours
Hi, i have a very strange problem with sleep and wake up. I use s3 sleep - wake on lan only with magic packet and i wake up the pc with solarwinds wakeonlan. The system settings are ok because it simply works both s1 and s3. I have noticed that if leave the pc more than 3-4 hours sleeped , i can't wake it up either with magic packet either with rdp - ping simple packet. I have a different second pc on the same network switch and works fine. I changed nic but it does the same. Any ideas ? Thanks.

Could be the power savings settings are putting the machine into full shutdown. Hi, Thanks for posting in TechNet forum. If you use the s1 sleep, will the computer wake up after 3 or 4 hours? Any related logs in your Event Viewer? Please update the BIOS to the latest one, then check if it works. Refer to this: How to Troubleshoot a Vista or Windows 7 Sleep Mode problem. Ensure update your hardware driver, sometimes, the driver problem could cause the issue, here's a similar one with nVidia driver: http://www.vistax64.com/drivers/158050-s3-str-sleep-can-not-wake-up.html In addition, you can use the command powercfg -h on to get a detailed power setting report, you can also choose to use the some third-party tool to troubleshoot the issue. So far not good, i forgot to mention that the wake on lan is over internet. I tested it in a private lan and it works. I think that the destination switch powers off the port after a few hours of inactivity(sleeped). If i manage the conslole of the switch and disable - enable the port and send a magic packet the pc wakes up. So i ended up that is a network issue. Thanks.

one think to check, look in the device manager for the network adapter, see if the panel shows it to be configured to power down My MVP is for the Windows Desktop Experience, i.e. Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 IT Remote Assistance is available for a fee.
