cannot install external-drive
ASUS laptop series K52, model K52F(Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit) and Westen Digital ELEMENTS 1 TB, USB 2.0 hard-drive(new). On first connection of HD to laptop sceen message reads DEVICE DRIVER SOFTWARE INSTALLED SUCCESSFULLY, YOUR DEVICE DRIVER IS READY TO USE, then nothing more. The DEVICE is not shown in COMPUTER. In Devices and Printers, the device is shown but not 'ticked' as recognised. Under Backup and Restore-click Setup backup,message- please wait while Windows Backup starts. Only backup destination shown is laptop DATA(D)drive. Click REFRESH: message-Please wait while Windows looks for devices where backup can be saved. This message dissapears within a second.Nothing more follows. In essence, the laptop will not recognise the HD. Windows downloads are up to-date ,including drivers. BT & ASUS technical support have tried (on-line) to install the HD without success.Any ideas please-i have spent hours on this and am minded to chuck the HD out the window: a little OTT perhaps. Thanks in anticipation, wicket Twicket T
