cannot connect printer in a wireless network
Can someone help please.I have an Epson CX6600 printer connected to a desktop PC running Window XP Home with AVG Firewall, I have a laptop running Vista Home Premium (with Norton 2007 interent security) with the Vista printers drivers downloaded and installed. Both computers are in a WLAN. I can see shared rescources of both computers on both computers and i can open, ect iaw with the setting i have set up in sharing. The printer connected to the XP PC is shared. I open the Network and Sharing Centre on the Vista machine - click View Computers and Devices - click Add a Printer - click Add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer. The correct printer name and location is dispalyed, but when i highlight it and click Next i get the folowing message "Connecting to Epson CX6600 on (correct location)", then after about 5 seconds I get the message "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Access is denied."I have Tried with each firewall disabled one at a time and again both firewalls disabled and still i get the same message. Thanks in advance that someone can help.

ok a bit more info - - Now on the Vista laptop i do the following;Open the network window, then Double click the location where the printer is connected in this case the XP Home desktop (STUDY), then click the Printers Applet, the CX6600 (share on the desktop CALLED STUDY)) is visible and shows ready. I then right click the printer and select Properties and select the security tab i see the following: Everyone - Print - Allow Creator Owner - Manage Doc - Allow Admins (STUDY/Admins) Print, Manage Printers & Manage Docs - AllowDoes this mean that the printer can only be controlled by Admins on STUDY (desktop)?Could it be that the problem lies within Windows XP Permissions? I have hunted high and low to find where to change these, to no avail.Just thought some more info would be useful for someone to give me a steer in the right direction.Cheers

Hi Still having this problem and wondered if anyone has a clue what to do? I notice there are a lot of issues with regards to networking Vista and XP machines and in particular Wireless Networking. This would appear to be a major problem that needs to be addressed in future SP releases. Vista is good to look at, but seems to have lots of flaws. That's off my chest now, so if anyone that can halp with the printing issue above I would be most greatfulThanksMatt

For what it is worth, my printer is networked through the router and not installed directly to either computer. If your printer has network capability maybe that would be an acceptable solution. Mine works with Vista Home Premium on a wireless laptop, and an XP PC. Best, Duncan

Thanx for your reply Duncan. Unfortunately the printer is not capable of connecting through the router(old printer), plus the router is located next to the telephone line about 10 metres away. The only way i can set it up is by connecting the ptinter to the XP PC and using it as the print server, alas it still isn't working. Are there any MS tech staff out there on the forum that have a solution? Thanx again Duncan. Matt
