cannot access network drive Win7
Running Win 7. I have a hard drive connected to a router (all hard wired). But I cannot access the drive. When looking in Network, the drives does appear under Other Devices as Storage. It also appears under Computer as Storage. When I try to access the drive as shown under Other Devices, it keeps asking for a User Name and Password. I've never set up a password and all of the choices in Network and Sharing are set to not require a password.I've also tried to access the drive by clicking on it under Computer. When I do that, I get the message that the drive is not accessible and you might not have permission to use this resource. I'm always logged on as Administrator.I also have a XP computer attached to the network and it has no problems at all accessing the drive, so I'm thinking it's something in the Win 7 system. How can I access this drive on my Win 7 computer?

Please bear in mind, that my answer is based on the details given in your post. The more I get the better the answer, Slan go foill, Paul

Hi, Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Adjust the security setting on the Windows 7 computer: 1) Click the Start Button, type "gpedit.msc" (without quotation marks) and click OK. 2) In the "Group Policy" window, double click on "Windows Settings" under "Computer Configuration". 3) Double click on "Security Settings"-> "Local Policies"-> "Security Options" 4) In the right panel, double click on the "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level", please select "Send LM & NTLM Responses". 5) Click Apply and OK. 2. Adjust sharing settings: 1) Go to “Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings”. 2) Under “File sharing connections”, select “Enable File Sharing for Devices that Use 40 or 56-bit encryption”. 3) Under “Password protected sharing”, select “Turn off password protected sharing”. 4) Save the changes above. Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

to artiste1 when I right click on the disk > Properties, I only get 1 tab that says "network device", nothing elseto nicholas li I cannot run gpedit. It says not found. From other threads I've read, this does not seem to be available in Win 7 Home Premium which I have. It appears it is only available in higher level versions. I adjusted the share settings, but with no luck.

It appears it is only available in higher level versions. I adjusted the share settings, but with no luck. For the Home version you need to edit the registry: Click Start, type "regedit" in the box and hit enter Navigate to this location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa Create a DWORD key under Lsa and set: Name: LmCompatibilityLevel Value: 0 Restart your computer. Click Start, click Run..., type "cmd" and hit enter, type "work /now"

I had already tried regedit. In reading different forums, several values were given: 0, 1, 2. I tried all of them with no success. Also, when I tried the "work /now" I received the message of no such command.

Hi, In addition, when you are prompted to input the user name and password, please try the following: 1. The administrator account and password of the Windows 7 computer or the Windows XP computer. 2. If you have a username and password for the network drive management site, please input it. In addition, could you please let us know the brand and model of this network drive? Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

I've tried entering id's and passwords. I originally did not have a password so I tried with just the id. When that didn't work, I set up a password and tried that. That didn't work either. I also tried setting up another user account with password and id and still no luck.I've also tried the password for the router. The router does not have a user id though. The instructions for the router say to leave the id blank and just enter a password. And there is no means to change or add a user id on the router. It seems bazaar that I can access that drive from my XP computer without doing anything. The drive appears on the network and I just click on it. But from my Win7, I can't get past the login. The disk is an iomega MCHD500-N and the router is a Linksys WRT54GL

Hi, Please also boot the system to Safe Mode with network and see if it works. In addition, you can also update the firmware of the network drive or contact Iomega Support to see if they can give you some constructive suggestions on this issue: Iomega Support Please Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support.
