cannot access my NAS
In french/english sorry. I installed a dual boot PC with windows 7 and XP Pro. When I wanted to access my NAS on my network, the system asks for a user name and password. I did not set up a user name/password for that network. Problem is that I am not able to erase the indications in the input areas and thus access my NAS Thank you Jacques

On the face of it, I'd say that your account name & password (in Win7) aren't quite right.I don't think that you're being asked for a username\password to access the network (if you were, you'd need to enter that to do so much as browse the internet); rather, you're being asked for a username\password to access the NAS.This would indicate that your NAS does have user-account controls in place on it (in other words, user authentication for its shares.)If you enter a valid username\password (as an example, the account name & password for your user account in XP), are you able to access the NAS?Make and model of NAS?[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Try using NASName\guest with no password whereNASName = the name your NAS shows on the network. If that doesn't work the NAS may not be compatible with Vista and Windows 7 networking. Most NAS devices use an embedded Linux with Samba for file sharing. Older versions of Samba are not compatible with the way Vista and Windows 7 authenticate. What is the model of your NAS? Have you checked with the manufacturer to see if it is Vista compatible or if there is a firmware upgrade to make it so. If it can work with Vista then it should work with Windows 7.Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Or just fix windowsclick the start button and type secpol.msc in the search function. Browse to "Local Policies" -> "Security Options". Now look for the entry "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" and open it. Click on the dropdown menu and select "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated". Apply the settings.EDIT:I should not say fix windows as to do the above will weaken security, soI should say dumb down windows to work with samba.

Wouldn't you know? As soon as I posted I solved the problem. My user ID on the NAS is the same as my user ID on Win 7. When I set up the mapped drive, I entered just plain userid instead of NASname\userid. Somehow, this works ok if you enter it into the dialog, but does not work for auto reconnect. (Who knows why?) I disconnected, remade the connection using NASname\userid, and all is well. It now reconnects at logon, and my other startup stuff works as well.
