hi, when i using windows 7, i can ping by IP address, but i can't ping by computer name. for example, when i type PING ABC, it always add ping abc.domain and then cannot succeed to ping. can someone tell me the root of the cause? also when i use vamt2.0 to activate win7, but it failed with access denied. thanks,charles

Check your DNS suffix and see if theu are correct or not? You can do ipconfig/all and get the list.

For your ping problem... It's definitively a DNS problem so you should do "ipconfig /all" for each computer and see how the computers are set? If you can post it here the results of your ipconfig, we can help you a lot more. For the VAMT 2.0, it seems like it's a "security" issue. Are you in the "Administrators" group of the local computers that you are trying to activate? It seems like you don't have enough permissions to do this operation with your user account. You should add your user account in the local "Administrators" group of the computers or use a "Domain Admin" account. By the way, are you using a KMS server for the activations? If yes, than you should consider checking your DNS settings deeply because KMS is using DNS to activate computers. DNS is very important while using KMS. good luck...Kubilay Elmas

hi, all. thanks for your reply. yes, it's a DNS problem, and already resloved. i have another scenarios: is there any command line allow me input a COEM product key in a WIN7 client computer. as you know, if we have to buy the preinstalled OS computer, it will comes with different product key on each computer. as all you maybe know, COME prdocut key is different way to activate because it's bios based activation. can VAMT also activate COEM license? and if there is command line that can remotely input the COEM product key to a client, then it's possible to write down the product license in advance matched with each computer, then remotely installled the product key will cut the cost on shuttling between client and IT. can SLMGR do it? if SLMGR can do, then it maybe possible to write a script to automatically install COEM product key for each computer, maybe run a script to install the key by matching the computer name. do you have the example? thanks,charles

Hi again, Unfortunaltly VAMT 2.0 is not meant to manage OEM licenses. You can't activate or manage any OEM keys through VAMT 2.0. Look at the following article for details. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff686877.aspx But you can use the "slmgr.vbs" script to activate OEM licenses as explained in the following article. You should read this great article first from Mark Minasi. Than it's really up to your scripting skills that you can maybe write a script which reads a text documents where you have all your computer names and activate them one by one. But a OEM key is meant to be used only 1 time. So 1 key for 1 machine. That means in your script you will have to enter all different license keys.. This is a long and time consuming process as much as doing it manually. http://www.windowsitpro.com/article/tips/control-your-licensing-with-slmgr I suggest you to use slmgr remotely. On a machine where you have enough rights to perform these actions open an elevated command prompt. type " slmgr.vbs computername -ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX " to enter the new product key and type " slmgr.vbs computername -ato " to activate the computer. I did not know that you did not had an internet access. In that case, you don't have too many choices. Either you give them internet access only for the activation, either you do the activation 1 by 1 through phone or internet. And yes, you have to "run as administrator" the command prompt and after type in the "slmgr.vbs" command normally. Or maybe you should consider Microsoft Volume Licensing and use a KMS server if you have to activate lots of computers.
