can't restore Outlook.pst from backup
I'm trying to restore my Outlook.pst from Windows 7 backup. When I browse the backup, it lists a file of the appropriate nme, date, and size. But when I restore the file (whether to its original location or to a new location), I get a file listed as 0 KB (and of course Outlook can't open it).Other backed up files restore properly. Could this be a problem with the volume shadow copy (or whatever Windows 7 calls it)? Outlook was running when the backup was made. Can anyone suggest a way to restore this file successfully?

Try to copy with administrator rights.

Outlook was running. Unfortunately, that is probably your problem. Although volume shadow copy allows the background archive of system files while they are in use, it does not work very well with Outlook PST files when they are in use. As a matter of fact, I have not seen a single backup application that can successfully backup PST files while they are in use or open. In my opinion, this is a problem with the PST file structure and Outlook more than it is a problem with the OS. If your file is reading 0kb, then you dont really have a file; you just have a MFT entry to a null location.

Thanks for the suggestions.! Administrator rights didn't help. Before I saw the entire-folder suggestion,I managed to restore the file from a recent-enough XP backup (using ntbackup; the restored file was damaged, but scanpst repaired it successfully). I'll try the entire folder later though just to see if it works.
