can't pass log on screen, system repair etc not working
Hi, My Acer aspire 5542 recently started to slow down while using. I decided to restart it. The windows screen appears and it takes me to the log in screen. If I type in the wrong password it tells me is wrong but doesn't pass the welcome screen after put in the right password. I tried system restore but can't access the more recent restore points on my lap top and the old one on my external is not working, it never finishes even if I leave it running over night. I have also tried startup repair and windows memory diagnostic but no problems were detected. My kaspersky antivirus had expired shortly before everything went wrong. If you have any suggestions on what I could try next would be great. I am not sure whether to try disable driver signature enforcement. I am really worried about loosing all the info I have on my laptop. Thanks!

Hi, You may try to boot the computer in Safe Mode to see whether this makes any difference. If the desktop appears, you may refer to the link below to boot computer in Clean Boot to check whether the 3rd party software prevent your logging on computer. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
