I believe our XP machine had the same happen after a update. It asks for a password for our user account that was never setup with a password. I have tried to enter safe mode but it also asks for a password. I also tried the Ctrl+Alt+Del twice with no change. I tried to change the logon name to administrator and leave the password blank and still cant logon. I'm not sure what to do next. Any help would be appreciated.

This may not be the best solution to put on a microsoft website but google DPL Password hack. Basically you download this tool and save it to a bootable CD. It looks comples but as long as you foloow the on screen instructions and remember your drive letters you will be alright. It basically shows you all the user accounts and lets you reset the password for each one or just the one you have selected. Hope this helps.

Unbelievable!!!!! I'm not asking for the key to fort knox DEBRA. I have been looking online for a fix to my problem. It seems that many others have the same problem after a MICROSOFT UPDATE. My problem was created by YOU!!!!I have gone years with out ever having to put in a password. I have my computer on auto update. One day out of the blue it asks for a password that I never created. All I want is my emails and contact list. I guess I will have to pull the harddrive and try to recover on another computer. My last laptop purchase was an Apple. I wont ever purchase another microsoft product again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
