can't go to Windows Update on Win 7 machine
I have a Windows 7 laptop and I cannot get to the Windows Update site. If I go to Start-->All Programs-->Windows Update then the icon spins for like have a second but Windows Update never comes up. I think also that Windows Installer may not be functioning but I do not know how to repair that either. Is there somewhere to download the Windows Installer for Windows 7? Is there a way to reset Windows Update on a Windows 7 computer or otherwise fix this problem?

I can get to a web page that says "Use your Start menu to check for updates" but the other Windows Update window that is suppose to pop up is not doing so. How can I fix this?

Hi FuFighter, if you still cannot Update using WindowsUpdate, try this : Open Internet Explorer > Tools >Internet Options > Security > Click 'trusted sites' icon >Click Sites > uncheck 'require server verification'. Then add following sites : http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com http://*.windowsupdate.com http://update.microsoft.com http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx Click Close > Apply > OK. This is known to help the GenuineValidated Windows, in some cases, but not always. Do also ensure that you have the latest Windows Update Agent installed. And if the problem happens while downloading, you can downloading updates directly from Microsoft Update Catalog. These following links may help to you: Windows Update Troubleshooter. Troubleshoot problems with installing updates. Also please check WindowsUpdate.log (%windir%\Windowsupdate.log) and check Event Viewer. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
