can't edit a config file! Locked?
I'm just trying my Windows 7 (64-bit) beta today for the first time. I've run into a problem that I can't get around: I've installed Firefox and on our network Firefox needs a few lines added to one of its configuration files (firefox.js). I can't save the file once I've added the required lines. (It wants to do a Save As and won't allow me to save with the same name.) I've made the account I'm using a member of Administrators and I've confirmed that that group has adequate rights to the file; but it still won't let me. It's as if the file is locked, but I can't figure out how to unlock it. Help please! (I'm an XP user who's skipping Vista and I could do this in XP but clearly something is different here.) TIA - JR

Hi JRIf you right click the file and select properties, do you see a Unblock button at the lower right corner?Hope this helps. Ronnie Vernon MVP

I can change my firefox.js file easily and save the changes. I'd wonder if there were some other restrictions on the network that are causing this behavior.Try Save As, then rename the current firefox.js to firefox.jsbak, then rename the Save As one to firefox.js- John

Well, it was a royal pain, but I *finally* accomplished the goal, roughly as you suggest. There's got to be a reason why it is so fiercely protecting those files. But I haven't figured out how to tell it to relax and let me edit that file directly... - JR
