Hiya i have a compaq presario CQ57 and this morning it had frozen so i had to manually turn off, after done so, it turned back on and said that it needed to system repair (or something similar) it said it would take prob over 1 hour (it took 3) then reebooted, and it came up with windows loading then went to next page (as if to come up with login page) and stayed black with a movable white cursor. it doesnt move on from that,have tried some different things no luck, wont reboot in safe mode.... HELP PLEASE????

Could you enter F8 menu? If it is the case, select Last known good. If this does not help, use recovery procedure from recovery CD. Rgds Milos

hiya,tried that,no luck and my laptop didnt come with any CDs at all, only a small booklet!! thanks,Jorjia.

also, my wireless is on and cd opens and closes, I did do a windows update yesterday morning and Norton2012 was installed, i didnt realise AVG was still in there tho, dont know if that helps?

Hi, Firstly, do you mean that it even cannot boot into Safe Mode? If so, please perform a Startup Repair and see how it works. If Startup Repair cannot help, Im afraid that you may need to perform an In-place Upgrade. Hope this helps. Jeremy Wu TechNet Community Support
