belkin G F5D7050 wireless adapter uninstallation problems 'an error occurred while defining the dialog box'
okay so i did have an N one before this (F5D8053) but i just could not get it working and belkin were utterly useless so i gave up on that one and am trying to get my old one going again. (it worked before!)we found that belkin have now put windows 7 drivers for the F5D7050 adapter up on their website so my dad downloaded the correct one (yes i know it is the right one). he said he installed it just fine but it doesn't work. when the adapter is plugged in, it realises its there but says 'no driver found'. the name of the hardware doesn't even come up when it's plugged in. so i tried the obvious thing which is to uninstall the driver and try again but i can't uninstall it, i just get the error as soon as the setup runs that says 'an error occurred while defining the dialog box'i have tried everything to uninstall it but i just get the error. could it be because i have tried to install it so many times before? i have always uninstalled it correctly afterwards.by the way, we did try to do a system restore but we were only able to go back to the 25th because that's when i last tried to install the adapter. it did nothing. please help me!EDIT: ok i managed to remove it with revo uninstaller pro and reinstall it PROPERLY but it still doesn't work. my network doesn show up in the list and the network diagnostics tell me i have a driver issue!!! what the heck do i do now??

Hi, I would like to know what version of Windows 7 is running, 64-bit or 32-bit. To troubleshoot this issue, you can try installing the driver in compatible mode: Install under compatibility mode & Administrator level ================= 1. Right click on the installation file and click Properties. 2. Click on the Compatibility tab. 3. Select “Run this program in compatibility mode for.” 4. Choose Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) from the drop down list. 5. Select “Run this program as an administrator” option under the Privilege Level topic. 6. Click Apply, click OK. Right click on the setup file and choose Run as administrator to install it again. If it does not work, try installing the driver as below: Install built-in driver ========================== 1. Click the Start Button, type Device Manager in the search bar and press Enter. Click Continue if necessary. 2. Find out your belkin device in Other Device or Universal Serial Bus controllers category. 3. Right click on it and click Update Driver Software… 4. Select the " Browse my computer for driver software". 5. Check "Include subfolder" box, and click Browse… 6. Browse to C:\windows folder, and click OK. 7. Click Next.Vivian Xing - MSFT

Vivian, it looks like if its has the FCC ID of version 3000, 4000 or 5000 series then Belkin has both the 32bit and 64bit in the zip file here http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/297/p/263 but if its a 1000 or 2000 series then he's SOL if he's running 64bit Windows, then they DON'T have Windows 7 drivers for it but Vista or earlier at the latest, then you'll have to install it in compatibility mode ONLY if its a 32bit operating system you have. Short, to the point instructions: 1. Unplugg Belkin wireless USB adapter 2. Uninstall Belkin software in Control Panel > Uninstall a Program 3. Delete a file in your system32 folder called netr70.sys full path: C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\netr70.sys 4. Are you sure your Belkin softward is uninstalled? If not, repeat step 2. 4a. Go here- http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/297 Download the file that matches the FCC number on the back of your device. Instructions are on that site. 5. Plug in device when it asks. If it still doesn't work you may have to: 6. Go to the device manager under Network Adapters right click on your Belkin Wireless Device (if it isn't showing here then you have a worse problem) and click Update Driver 7. Select "Install from a specific location on my computer" 8. Browse to "C:\windows\system32\" hit ok, - Check "subfolders" Click next, THEN it should work. Story: I did an optional windows update (stupidly, I see now) for my Belkin dongle and it broke it by installing an older version of the driver (the file called netr70.sys) that it kept defaulting to. Once you delete the netr70 it should revert or update to the netr73 file that installs with the latest drivers here:http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/297

HERE's a fix that actually WORKS!! I have Windows XP and a Belkin Wireless USB Adapter that will not un-install or install. I keep getting the same message as mentioned. None of the recommended fixes in most forums are working. Here's a fix that worked for me and I'm sure will work, guaranteed, for anyone else with the same issue. 1). Remove your USB Adapter from your computer. 2). Click START and click Run... then type regedit and click OK. A window will popup. BACKUP -> First things first. Click File and then click "Export..". Give your reg file a name and click OK. This just means that IF anything goes wrong, you've got a backup that you can then import again. It should give you a little more confidence with handling the next steps :)) I've made sure that the steps below are detailed enough to avoid you getting lost... Ok, so to continue... 3). Were' back in the regedit window now. Click on "My Computer" in the left hand tree so it's highlighted and then go to "Edit" from the top menu bar and go down to "Find..." 4). In the box type the word Belkin and then click the "Find next" button. There will be a pause as your computer searches the registry for instances where Belkin appears. 5). When it stops, you will notice that on the left hand side a folder will be opened called Belkin (or similar) and on the right will be a panel of data within that folder. Now there is a rule you need to follow here to ensure you don't do anything wrong (if a technophobe).. a). If the left panel folder name contains the word "Belkin" then you can delete that folder which also deletes anything inside it. To delete it, just make sure the folder is highlighted and press the "Delete" button on your keyboard (or just right-click the folder and selected delete). You will be asked to confirm your action. Obviously, say yes. To move on to the next occurance of the word "Belkin" simply press the F3 key and the search will continue. b). If your search stops on a folder that is similar (not exact) in layout to this --> {F3759A9F-7AFA-4FB4-8DF1-53F26B979DEE} then this will be the place where the install/uninstall files have been kept and is most likely going to be the cause of the problem you are having. Look at the panel to the right in this instance. You will find a reference to C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{The folder name}. You need to visit that location on your computer and delete the folder. To see the "InstallShield Installation Information" folder, you first need to make sure that when you are in the Program Files folder, you have selected to view all hidden folders and files. To do THAT, go to the Program Files folder, then at the top select Tools->Folder Options->Click the "View" tab then click the item that says "Show hidden files/folders". Click OK until everything closes. You should now see semi-transparent folders too and the one you're looking for. DELETE IT!!! Then go back to regedit and delete the folder name there too. So, basically, keep deleting yellow folders from the regedit if they contain the word "Belkin" until it doesn't find anything else! Now try running your install file again.. Side note: When you delete the C:\Program Files\Belkin folder, are you getting permission denied? Don't worry. Just delete all the files in it anyway an move on. I hope that works for you. Don't panic when you are in the registry. Just be wise and understand that the registry is a place that tells the computer where everything is and what it's values are. In some places, the registry will find a folder called "Run". This folder shows all of the programs that run when you start your computer. You might see on the right that there's an entry for "Belkin". Just remove it, because that now tells your computer not to try running the Belkin software anymore when it starts up. A bit of confidence and you will be able to delete any valid reference to your Belkin Adapter! Good luck :) PS - If you decide to select all of your registry and press delete, don't blame me :)
