before you can print you need to select a printer
I have 2 USB printers connected via network print servers. They have been working fine and still do in some applications. The problem I am having just started today. When I try to print from IE8 or Word 2007 I get the messege "before you can print you need to select a printer" and I select either printer and it does not make the print button active. When I try from Excel the messege is a little different "Current printer is unavailable. Select another printer". I can open Wordpad and print just fine. I can also print a test page without error. I have not yet checked all of my other applications tonight to see if any of the others are working or not. I really need some help getting this fixed. My specs are:Dell XPS 730xi7 9206GB ramlots of HDD spaceWindows 7 Pro x64 MSDN RTMOffice 2007

Have you selected default printer?:)I think, that the printer go offline before you want print. Try before printing from Word check if is Printer On-line (in Printers & Devices). It do it in Word, IE8 and Excel always (or one document it print and another not..)?

Can you recall what you have done recently? As your trouble just started today, you can try system restore before today. If no restore point is available, you can try the following suggetions: 1. Create a new account. 2. Update the printer driver.3. Remove the network printers, then reinstll them. Go to control panel --> Devices and Printers and right click on the printer icon and select Remove device, finish the wizard.Download the latest driver from the manufacture, then follow these steps to add them.1. Open Devices and Printers2. Click Add a printer.3. Select Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer in the Add Printer Wizard.4. In the list of available printers, select the printer, and then click Next. 5. Browse to the downloaded driver to install the driver. I hope this can help you. John

I was able to print from other apps just fine. It wound up just Microsoft office and IE that would not print. It took another reboot and everything started working. Then I logged back into the website I was trying to print an order confirmation from and it started all over again. I had to reboot again and went tested everything was working fine, went back to the site and could still print until I logged in again. I guess something is going on with Onesaleaday.com all of a sudden. I sent them an email but have not heard back from them yet. Never had a problem with their site before.

As you just have trouble with Onesaleaday.com website after logging in it, the trouble is more related to the website. At the same time, you can try to reset the IE setting to test your trouble. Reset Internet Explorer 8 =============================Note: the following steps will remove all of installed add-ons and reset IE to default settings. You need to reinstall the add-ons after resetting.1. Click "Start", type "inetcpl.cpl" (without quotation marks) into “Search” bar and press "Enter" to open the “Internet Options” window.2. Switch to the "Advanced" tab.3. Click "Reset…" to reset Internet Explorer settings.4. Check "Delete personal settings" box and click "Reset" to confirm the operation.5. Click "Close" when the resetting process is complete.6. Click “Restore advanced settings” button and click “OK”.7. Close the Internet Explorer window and restart IE to test again.Hope this helps.John

I found the problem. I had gotten a Windows Update to Defender and it enabled Protected Mode under the security settings tab in Internet options. Once I removed the check the problems have not returned.
