Hi trimarkus, Firstly, test to see if you can backup on another external hard drive. Step 1: Disable the security software and then test to see if the issue persists; follow the steps mentioned in the link belowImportant: Enable the security software back once everything is done.Step 2: Put the computer in clean boot state and check to see if the issue persists; follow the steps mentioned in the article below How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" statehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353 Note: Put the computer back to normal startup state, refer the section “Steps to configure Windows to use a normal startup state” in the link Step 3: Run Check disk to fix any bad sectors on the hard drive.a. Click on start and in the start search bar type cmd, right click on the command prompt icon in the programs area and then click on run as administrator.b. At the command prompt type chkdsk /f and then press enter. Now, type in chkdsk /r Also run Check disk to fix any bad sectors on the external hard drive.c. Type E: (your external drive) and press enterd. At the command prompt type chkdsk /f and then press enter. Now, type in chkdsk /r Note: CHKDSK would try to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, during this process there are chances of Data loss from that particular sector. Thanks and Regards:Ajay KMicrosoft Answers Support EngineerVisit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.
