Hi clarkie73, ·What is the service pack installed on your computer? The ASP.NET Machine Account is created when the Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 is installed onto a Windows XP computer. The user is created to run the asp.net worker process used in Microsoft's Internet Information Services, which allows ASP.net to run on your local web server (This is pretty much its only use, it is not used to run normal .net managed executables). ASP.net is a programming framework built on the common language runtime (Microsoft .net framework) which can be used on a server to build powerful Web applications As safe mode is also prompting for password you may have to repair install your computer and change the password during the repair installation process:a. Boot the computer using installation CD and restart the computerb. When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.c. Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.d. Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.e. In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.f. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.g. After the first restart press Shift+F10 to enable access to a command prompt during GUI-Mode Setuph. Type in “control userpasswords2” (without quotes)i. Click on reset passwordj. And type in the new password or you may also uncheck the option User must use user name and password when logging ink. Complete the process and try logging into the user account. Also adding to these, I would recommend you to install service pack 3 on your computer that improves the reliability of Windows by installing the latest software updates - new drivers for the hardware and more.
