application memory dumps
If an application crashes on windows 7 you can get a dialog with something like the text at the end of this message in it. Now... is a dump file created? Where does it go? If I search my computer for *.dmp, all I see is dumps from dates in the past. Not the current one. Its my understanding that the dmp exists somewhere like it did in earlier OS's. Anyone know where to go for the dmp? Or if it's not available, why it was decided to make this so difficult for users who know how do use dmp files? // debug dialog text. OK... Some hope here. Waiting for a crash to test. The following says I can go to the process in taskmgr and right click on the process and say create crash dump. Very Nice. Unfortunately... it's way to hard to figure this out. Good luck finding this info from MS and good luck finding anything close to this useful via all the worthless start > troubleshooting command suggestions. http://kb.acronis.com/content/2192

You have to configure Windows Error Reporting service to create dumps: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb787181%28VS.85%29.aspx"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

Hi, Please try Andre’s suggestion to create dump file. Also, I would like to confirm which application crashed on the machine. To troubleshoot the issue, please also try the following steps. 1. Perform a Clean Boot to check the result. 2. Run antivirus program and perform a full scanning. Thanks, Novak

Andre, you're saying I have to configure another service? Why can't I just use what is recommended in the link I posted? Are you MS guys unaware of that feature? I'm amazed MS people didn't just suggest that method. Is the taskmgr -> Create Crash Dump not doc'd / not supported by MS? Novak. The app is my own.

Because the service doesn't require any interaction with the user! You can configure the dump type, the maximum number of stored dumps and many things more. This is much better! If you prefer your manual way, do it! I prefer the WER service."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/
