alt-tab doesn't work properly
Alt-tab is supposed to display the icons for the applications that are running. If I keep the alt key depressed, the icons are supposed to stay visible. But on my system, they are only visible for a couple of seconds, and then the window for the icon I have highlighted opens. How do I ensure that the icons stay visible when the alt key is held down?

Have you tried both alt keys? Have you tested if it works the same in safemode? Did you install anything before you notice this issue?http://www.cesabarre.com/

Both alt keys do the same. I haven't tried safe mode, but I don't know why I would want to. The computer has done this from the start, which is only a few weeks ago. Incidentally, an XP system will do a similar thing, if it is low on memory: instead of displaying icons of windows, it will only display whole windows, one after the other. I guess it's a bug.

In Aero theme in Windows 7, this is what it should be. There are not problems in your system. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Is this a new retail computer, a personal build, a shop build or a company issued computer? When you hover the cursor over the icon of the open app or window in the taskbar, do you get "aeropeek"? Which display adapter are you using? It could be a driver issue.

It's a new laptop from Lenovo with Windows 7 installed. I don't know what aeropeek is, but when I hover over an icon in the taskbar, the window title is displayed. The display adapter is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD. But this seems like a bug in the OS.

well, Icons I don't have. I get a small window with thumbnails of the open windows with an icon of the app that is running in the open window. Alt + Tab and release tab and hold Alt keeps the small window open. I would contact Lenovo support. Then you may want to run the Lenovo update utility after contacting them.

Hold down the Windows key and tap Pause/Break. Do you have a Windows Experience Rating displayed? If not, click on the link to run the test. After it finishes, you should have the Aero interface enabled that will give you Aeropeek as described by Nano Warp unless your graphics score is too low. Holding down the Windows key and hitting tab will cycle a stacked deck of your running apps and the desktop. Jerry

Windows-Break & Windows-Pause didn't do anything useful that I can detect. HOWEVER, alt-tab started working correctly (holding down the alt key causes the thumbnails to stay visible)! Go figure. WHY CAN'T MICROSOFT PROVIDE ADEQUATE (COMPLETE) DOCUMENTATION FOR THEIR SOFTWARE???

You are probably hitting the wrong key. Pause Break is one key. Click on the start Orb > Control Panel> System to get to the same place. Jerry

I have a Lenovo laptop. There is an Esc-Break key and an F11-Pause key, but no Pause-Break key. Where is the documentation on what various keystrokes do?

Use the pause key. Win Logo + Pause. You may have add Fn. Win Logo + FN + F11/Pause. Is pause a different color? Start=>Help and support=> search keyboard shortcuts or here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows7/Keyboard-shortcuts

Pause is blue. Win+F11 changes IE in an undesirable way. "Pause" is written in blue at the bottom of the F11 key. Thanks for the documentation link!
