advapi32.dll entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.
When I open as administrator a command prompt window and enter the follow: regsvr32 advapi32.dll I get the following message: RegSvr32 The module advapi32.dll was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that "advapi32.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again. This I believe is related to the event log error I've been having each time my computer is reboot: Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-EventTracing/Admin Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-EventTracing Event ID: 2 Task Category: Session Level: Error Keywords: Session User: LOCAL SERVICE Description: Session "" failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000022 Guid="{B675EC37-BDB6-4648-BC92-F3FDC74D3CA2}" EventRecordID = 149 Execution ProcessID="1916" ThreadID="3512" ErrorCode: 3221225506 LoggingMode: 268443650 I went into the regedit and found that Guid="{B675EC37-BDB6-4648-BC92-F3FDC74D3CA2}" is: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-EventTracing %SystemRoot%\system32\advapi32.dll I went to the file and looked at the properties: Description: Advanced Windows 32 Base API I ran sfc /scannow and it reported no errors. Anyone know what the issue is? I ran Malwarebytes & AVG anti-virus scans and both came up clean.

Wow... You think that the computer is in that bad a shape that a in-place upgrade is the best choice? I am running a backup of the system now if indeed this is the best direction to go in. =( How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 R2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2255099

Will creating a restore point allow me to revert back from an in-place windows upgrade in the case that there is a problem?

restore points are not a backup, they are sometimes fine when a program/driver turns out to be no good Windows MVP 2010-11, XP, Vista, 7. Hi , I would like to explain that Advapi32.dll is a Winbase.h library file. And it is already loaded in Memory so that it cannot be registered. Running sfc/scannow is useless in this case. Best Regards, Tracy CaiTracy Cai TechNet Community Support
