adsl connection timeout
I hope I am not posting off topic, but I believe my problem could relate to Vista(64), that is why I am asking you guys about it; I am having a 2m/s adsl connection(tested the moddem, turned out to be fine) and I am browsing and using uTorrent without a problem. But when I am entering an online game (from like any mmo to CounterStrike) I get freezes and connection timeout error from the servers in like 30s/1m. Here is what I've tried: reseting connection, reseting modem, reseting pc, plugging out modem for a while, trying http://www.microsoft.com/windows/using/tools/igd/default.mspx (internet connectivity evaluation tool-which didn't reveal any problems), modifying as recommended by other knowledgeable guys the options from "netsh int tcp show global" in elevated cmd; I disabled temporarily IPv6, I even went as far as reseting the winsock(netsh winsock reset) and tcp protocol stack(netsh int ip reset)-all with UAC disabled of course. I have had problems like this in the past , but now I am all out of solutions(still waiting a reply from my provider). So I am hoping you could give me some ideas, is it from my provider? is it from Vista, what can I do about it ?The following might give you some insight (it was with autotuning on) SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results Tested on: 08.21.2008 04:46 IP address: 92.81.xxx.xx TCP options string: 020405ac0103030201010402 MSS: 1452 MTU: 1492 TCP Window: 66792 (multiple of MSS) RWIN Scaling: 2 Unscaled RWIN : 16698 Reccomended RWINs: 63888, 127776, 255552, 511104 BDP limit (200ms): 2672kbps (334KBytes/s)BDP limit (500ms): 1069kbps (134KBytes/s) MTU Discovery: ON TTL: 48 Timestamps: OFF SACKs: ON IP ToS: 00000000 (0) I forgot to mention I tried the Priority and VLAN -to disabled, from my network advanced configure...as it seems it was sucessful for another thread, and I tested it with steam -> cs1.6 and after ~30s my screen frozen again and connection problem followed by a connection timeout popped again. Thank you.

Hi, From your description, I understand that Counter-Strike cannot access network in Windows Vista. However, Windows programs such as IE and uTorrent work properly. Please understand that some programs designed for a computer running a 32-bit version of Windows may not work properly on a computer running 64-bit versions of Windows, although many of them will work without any changes. As a result, it's best to run programs designed to run on a 64-bit computer. In this case, as IE and uTorrent work properly, the network connection should work fine. I did a research on Counter-Strike. From Counter-Strike official website, we can find the recommended operating system is Windows 2000/XP, not Windows Vista. Counter-Strike http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=app&AppId=10&cc=AP Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information. Also, Windows Vista compatibility Center doesnt list Counter-Strike as compatible. Windows Vista Compatibility Center http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/ Given the situation, I suggest contacting the program manufacturer accordingly to confirm whether the program can work properly on a 64-bit Windows Vista computer. Hope it helps.
