Your user account became corrupted and you are in a temporary user account with no privileges. You will need to create a new user account for yourself and from there copy the data from your old user account to it. After you have all your data, you can delete the old user account from Control Panel>User Accounts. Before you do this, it would be wise to: 1. Do some hardware testing, at least the hard drive and the RAM. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot 2. Do some thorough scanning for malware/virus infection. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware If the hardware is good and the computer is virus/malware-free, log into the built-in Administrator account and make your changes. In XP Home, boot the computer into Safe Mode. Do this by repeatedly tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to the right menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not work here. Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden Administrator account. The default password is a blank. In XP Pro, you do not need to go into Safe Mode. At the Welcome Screen, do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in "Administrator" and whatever password you assigned when you set up Windows. If you have XP Pro or Media Center and were using the built-in Administrator account for your regular work and it is therefore the only user account on the system, there are ways to change the password for that account to a blank. Microsoft doesn't permit us to tell you how in these forums. Their house, their rules. Use Google or ask a local computer tech (not a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place). Besides those things, do you notice anything else. Usually if this is the kind fo message that's popping up there is a restriction on the registry or of some other form. The reason maybe because of a virus. Try to run a scan first on the computer. Either use malwarebytes or the online safety scan. Go to the link below for the online safety scan.safety.live.com
