Are either of those machines connected to the Internet? If so, in what manner? (cable modem? DSL? something else?) You'll probably find it easier and more effective (and safer) to use a small household switch/router like a Linksys WRT54G or similar product from another vendor. Well, that will make it a little harder. Both machines are running Windows XP, service pack 3? If so you can probably use Internet Connection Sharing.
