If this is not a permissions issue, it may be a local or group policy issue. Both can cause this and both have to be done intentionally.

Sarvil,I have run into the very same problem with ultimate. I have unfortunately been in absolute limbo, unable to access jump drives, ext hard drives, or my DVD / CD burner. At best, I have found I am able to watch prerecorded DVDs -- if they are in the drive when booted.I've tried reseting ownership, for instance under the D:\ properties - security tab. It presents the message "You do not have permission to view or edit this object's permission settings", this despite running under the administrator account.Frankly I don't know what I am doing, nor what I need to fix. I don't know if this problem was resolved for you, but I would truly appreciate a few breadcrumbs to find my way out of this maze and back to accessing my drives.Help, help me someone! I am becoming infuriated with my computer.

When importing a .pst file into outlook this error message is displayed if the data is on a DVD or other external storage device because the file is saved as "Read Only." I suppose outlook does not have a unique error message (or the ability to display it in this situation) which gives a more accurate description of the problem. Microsoft help website says to save on the hard drive and remove "Read only" status, which is apparently done in properties. I am doing this now and if it does not work I will post again. Otherwise this is the fix if you have this same situation. Maybe it is the same problem in others, but I dont know.
