You need permission to perform this action - when copying large folders
Hello all,
I am finding very similar threads to this issue, but have not yet found resolution. When I try to copy large folders to a network share, I get the message "you need permission to perform this action". For example, I am copying the extracted contents
of SQL2008 R2, and I get that message. Yet I can copy the iso, without error. The ISO is over 4gb, and the extract is over 5gb.
Now, If I hit "skip" on this message, the copy continues. I haven't let it finish to compare which files did not copy, but I regurarly get this message ever since I went to windows 7 when copying large folders. My account has full owernship of
the folders and files, and i even tried the "take ownership shortcut" (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1911-take-ownership-shortcut.html ).
To add to the matter, I can remote into the destination and copy from my machine. The server in question is 2008, and the drives are NTFS.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

How does it work if you boot in Safe Mode with Networking and copy the large files? If it works, I suggest you disable antivirus and firewall and check the result.
However if the issue persists in Safe Mode, on the file sharing server, please open Regedit, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters\
Change the value of the key “size” to 3
Also navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\
Change the value of the key “LargeSystemCache” to 1Arthur Xie - MSFT
