Yet another ... can't fileshare XP and Vista
I have a Vista (Home Premium) m/c and an XP (SP3) m/c networked using a wireless router. The XP machine can access files from the Vista machine. The Vista machine can "see" the XP machine in the network map, but cannot access files. I have extensively researched various posts ... enabled LTD on th XP machine, disabled the firewall on both machines, checked the names of machines and workgroups are correct ... I get an error — — Network Error Windows cannot access \\IANMYRA2 check the spelling of the name. otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose. When I click "Diagnose", I get: windows Network Diagnostics Windows cannot find 1ANMYRA2 windows sent the request to the DNS server and the server responded that the name was unknown. Check the spelling of the name, make sure the computer is turned on and connected to the network or contact your network administrator Click for more information about DNS. Any ideas (sorry about the odd font ... it's a copy and paste thing :-( )

What if you use the IP address of the "IANMYRA2" machine instead of the name. Does it work then?-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook
