Xp doesn't see Vista, but Vista does see XP...
Items: 1) - 1pc with Windows Xp2) - 1pc Windows Vista 3) - Linksys routerFirst of all, I tried to make a network(connection) between the two pc's(machines). The problem is that the Windows XP pc does not see the Windows Vista machine and files however, the Windows Vista pc does see the Windows XP machine. So practically, it only works on one side. I have tried to ping the Vista machine on my XP machine and it works. (4 succesfull and 0 failed) I also tried to look on Google and this forum but I can only find the opposite of my problem (Vista XP instead of XP Vista). Thanks a lot.1 person got this answerI do too

Do you have File & Printer Sharing enabled on the Vista machine? Have you tried turning off the firewall on the Vista machine, as a test?-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

There's nothing wrong with the Vista machine. The Xp machine just doesn't show the Vista machine and folders.

There's nothing wrong with the Vista machine. The Xp machine just doesn't show the Vista machine and folders. Well, if you already know what's wrong why did you ask us?-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

I asked help for the Windows XP machine to show the Vista's shared folder(s).and I know what's wrong but I don't know how to solve it. My point is that maybe I do know how to solve it? Rather than consider that I've solved this problem before and might have a clue how to help you you've chosen to dismiss my suggestions out-of-hand because you think you know better (but can't solve the problem). When two devices share resources it's like a conversation. Your devices aren't communicating. You're assuming that the XP machine is mute. I'm suggesting your Vista machine might be deaf. One of the common reasons why an XP machine wouldn't be able to see the shares on a Vista machine is because either File and Printer Sharing on the Vista machine is turned off OR because the Vista machine has a firewall enabled that is rejecting the XP machine's requests. If the problem persists after we've eliminated those common causes then we can look at other possibilities. Now you can try my suggestions and see if they help or you can fold your arms, insist the Vista machine is perfect and continue to have the problem. Your call. I get paid the same either way. :-)-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

Well I haven't had a lot expertise in networks, but you have I assume.I didn't really dismissed your suggestion but wanted to make sure or rather be more informed of the precise process.Gonna try it.

The default maps the Vista uses do, like; shared document on "username"But for the shared maps I make myself not. ( I see them but I can't access them)If I'm sharing it on the Vista and want to enter it in XP, it says that I don't have permission or that there is not enough space.I have enough space on my hdd, so I think it is the "permission" I have to work on, looked at the two maps; 1) the shared map I maked myself on Vista; new map2) the default map when coming in contact with the network: shared docs on "user" for example
