Xp Logon Box Sometimes Doesn't Appear After Being Locked
After we've locked our PC, occasionally the XP logon box (where you type your name and password in) doesn't appear. Sometimes when we wait for an hour or two it does eventually appear. Any ideas? Thanks! 1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi laz28,Did you make any software or hardware changes on your machine prior to this issue? You may configure the computer in clean boot state and then check if the issue persists. It will start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs and helps to eliminate software conflicts. The following link has steps showing how to perform clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the section ‘Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state’ from the article: How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Hope the information helps. No, no changes. It is an intermittent issue that has occurred perhaps twice a month for maybe the last 6 months.I wonder if it is as simple as the system running out of memory, perhaps due to the number of firefox windows we leave open. Thanks, Laz

Hi Laz,What is the amount of RAM (Randam Access Memory) installed on your machine? You may run System File Checker [SFC] scan on the computer which will replace the missing or corrupt files & check if the issue persists.a. Type ‘cmd’ in Start > Run box. Right click on cmd in the Program list and then select the option Run as administrator. b. Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannowFor more information refer this link.Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System File Checker (Sfc.exe)Hope the information helps.
