Xbox and Media Sharing.
We just purchased an xbox 360 for the soul purpose of media sharing. The problem is our pc cannot "see" it when we try to add it with WMP 11. We go to Library share media and the white box is blank. We are running Windows Xp we have the most recent service pack and just upgraded media player. Our PC is connected to our router via ethernet cable (as xbox recommends) and the Xbox is finding our wireless network and has been asigned a different Ip address. Its just that the PC does not know that it is there. We have corrected all firewall settings, restarted SSDP, When we ping the xbox we are getting an error message.5 people need an answerI do too

Hi pooobear46, Please try the following.
Step 1: Connect Xbox360 to Wireless Home Network
The first step to streaming music from your computer to your Xbox360 is to make sure that your Xbox360 is connected to your home network. (This article assumes that you have a wireless home network.) For general information about connecting your Xbox360 to a home network, see the Introduction to Home Networking article on the Xbox360 Web site . To connect your Xbox360 to your home network
Turn on your console and any wireless networking devices (such as a router or access point).
Plug the Xbox360 wireless adapter into the USB port on the Xbox360 game console.
Your Xbox360 should use the same router that your computer uses to connect to your home network and the Internet.
On the Xbox360 dashboard, select the System blade.
Select Network Settings, select Edit Settings, and then select the section that begins with Wireless Mode .
Select your wireless network, and then enter your network password (if necessary), and then select Done .
Your Xbox 360 console should be connected to your wireless home network.
For detailed information about setting up your Xbox360 on your wireless home network, see the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter article on the Xbox 360 Web site .
Step 2: Set Up Media Sharing in Windows Media Player11
After you download and install Windows Media Player11 for WindowsXP, you need to set up media sharing so that you can share music and other digital media with your Xbox360. The following steps describe how to set up media sharing in Windows Media Player11. To set up media sharing in Windows Media Player11
In Windows Media Player11, click the arrow below the Library tab, and then click Media Sharing .
In the Media Sharing dialog box, select the Share my media check box, and then click OK .
In the list below the Share my media to check box, click your Xbox360 , click Allow , and then click OK .
It might take a little bit of time for your Xbox360 to appear in the list of devices.
The following figure shows an Xbox360 as a device that is allowed to receive shared music.
Step 3: Play Shared Music on Xbox360
After you have set up media sharing in Windows Media Player11 and allowed Xbox360 to receive and play shared content, you can now stream music from your computer and play it on your Xbox360. To play music streamed from your computer on Xbox360
Using your Xbox360 controller, select the media blade.
Select music .
Select Computer .
On the Windows-based PC screen, select Yes, Continue .
After a few moments, your computer with the shared media name should appear.
Under Select your computer , select your computer and the shared media name.
Find the music that you want to play, and then select Play .
The music streams from your computer to your Xbox360.

when I click on share media, it lets me check the box and click ok, but it just pauses for 30 seconds then the ok box is clickable again. this is incredibly frustrating because every I look it says a list of usable devices will show but they do not. and where is this 8 digit code supposed to be used that my xbox prompted me to write down to set this all up. and my xbox and pc are wired to same router. I have been playing games on xbox live all day and been using internet on pc as well so not sure why it won't recognize xbox. since im not wirelessly hooked up to either not sure ur comment on wireless settings will do anything. please help. p.s. even downloaded new windows media center today, no change.

@ Shawn I appreciate reinforcing the proper directions, but as I followed them exactly and have the same problem they don't help. Should poobear and I be looking to change port numbers in the firewall, or are there any known anti-virus programs that can interfere with the 360 and XP communicating over uPnP?
