I have just reinstalled XP Home on my Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop.All updates have been downloaded and installed.When I click Start/Turn Off Computer/Turn Off, all the desktop icons and the task bar disappear, but the computer remains On with the Desktop background visible. Can this be remedied please.1 person needs an answerI do too

Process Explorer may help to determine what is running. To see the svchost processes, let the mouse pointer hover over each svchost.exe in the left pane. Download it from herehttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

Consider using the clean boot technique to try to determine if some program may be interfering.
