XP pro pc can access shared files on other computers in workgroup, but other computers in workgroup cannot access shared files on the XP pro pc.
I am setting up a home office network (workgroup) for sharing files. I have 3 computers: PC#1 Has XP Pro PC #2 has Windows 2000 Pro PC #3 has Vista Home Home Premium. All three PCs are set to the same workgroup name. All three PCs are set with the same User names and passwords. I completed the network set up wizard on all three PCs and all three PCs can see each of the other two on the network places window. PC# 1 can access files on PC# 2 and PC#3. PC#2 and PC#3 can access each other's files, but when I click try to access PC#1 form either of the other two PCs, it asks for a username and password. I have tried to enter the username and password several times and it just prompts me to enter it again. I have tried these two formats: Username Password and COMPUTER_NAME\Username Password The Vista PC (PC#3) says "Logon unsuccessful: Windows is unable to log you in..." The 2000 pro PC (PC#2) says "Incorrect password or unknown username for: \\COMPUTER_NAME" I have checked to make sure the folders in PC#1 are set for Simple file sharing. I disabled windows firewall settings. I have double checked that the Computer Name, Workgroup Name, and the login user names and passwords are identical on all 3 PCs. Also the User account I am using on PC #1 is an Admin account. PC#1 was originally used in a business and in a domain environment so I am thinking there is a security setting somewhere that is restricting the other two PCs from gaining access??? I have made sure it is now set to "Workgroup" instead of "Domain" Does the XP pro require a way to enter the user name and password that is different from Vista and 2000 pro? Is there a way to bypass the requirement for a username password? I would appreciate any help someone can provide. 1 person needs an answerI do too
