XP pro - slow boot
Hello:Just recently, my computer began booting upand re-booting (upon restart)very slowly. Once about 5-8 minutes passes, it's fine, but the initial boot or reboot is now taking 5 times longer than it did a week ago. Both the XP splash screen *and* the Windows spash screen stay on significantly longer than before. And once the desktop icons load, I still have to wait a while before I can do much of anything - even a right click on the desktop takes a while to register.<!-- / message -->I initially thought it was I-tunes related, so I transferred all that media to an external HD, but that didn't solve it.The computer is well-maintained, the 160GB HD is 78% free, and I've done all the basic maintenance I've done for years on all of my computers. Any suggestions? Thanks!1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi norborder, there could be a number of reasons for that.So there is plenty of free space on your hard drive. s your machine a laptop or a pc? You defragment regularly, and if so with which program(other than windows own).Do you only have necessary programs autoloading? What program do you use to Uninstall unwanted programs? The Add/delete at the Control Panel?(not vey efficient at times)There is also a possibility that a recently installed program may be the cause.Doyou have any additional removable media attached ie external hard drive and such? You do not mention Ram. assume you have enough?f you could provide me with answers to my questions,i could make some suggestions, and may other members.
