XP machines unable to get to Win7 Shares all of the sudden, reboot then all is fine.
This has happened multiple times now. I have 3 Windows 7 boxes running Enterprise x64 edition and 6 XP boxes running Professional x64. We create shares from the Windows 7 box and can share for multiple days. Then all of the sudden the shares are unable to be accessed from the XP boxes, but still can from the Win7 boxes. If i reboot the Win7 boxes then the shares work again. Any ideas? Firewall is disabled by domain policy (visually verified that is working), file sharing is on, password sharing is off, no AV software, network is not online.

Hi, Here are some suggestions you can try: 1. Upgrade the NIC driver to the latest one. 2. Disable Saving Power function on NIC device. a. Click Start, right click Computer and choose Properties. b. Click Device Manager. c. Navigate to the NIC device, right click it and choose Properties. d. Choose Power Management tab. e. Please uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. f. Restart the computer and test this issue again. Thanks, Novak

NIC driver is already up to date. Intel pro 1000. And power settings are already set to high performance with the disks and adapters not checked to turn off. This is happening on 3 different desktops in the office. We do a lot of sharing from one machine to another. Remember sharing still works with Windows 7 machines, just not XP machines. Then you must reboot the Windows 7 machine to be able to share again with the XP machines. We share volumes FROM the Windows 7 box to other blends of Microsoft operating systems (XP x64 sp2 pro, XP x32 sp2 pro, Server 2003 x32 sp4, Server 2008 x64 standard edition). They other blends of OS's can still see other shares, just not the share from the faulty Windows 7 share, but if I have a Windows 7 machine try and get to the faulty share it will work with no problem.

Hi, Can you post the error message when accessing the shared folder on Windows 7 from Windows XP? To troubleshoot the issue, please also try the following steps. 1. When the issue occurs, please write down IP address for Windows 7. Click Start button and click Run in Windows XP, and then type \\IP address for Windows 7, and then press enter. Can you access Windows 7 machine? If not, please share the error message here. 2. Assign a static IP address and DNS address on one Windows XP machine and one Windows 7 machine. Then, please check whether the symptom occurs between the two machines. Thanks, Novak
