XP in need of major cleanup
I have a computer that is running XP Pro SP3 and it is low on diskspace. Any suggestions on what to do? Other than Disk Cleanup, is there anything else that can be gotten rid of? The programs that are already installed need to stay.1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi,If you dont plan to uninstall service packs you can try deleting the $NtUninstall in within windows folder.Note that the folder is marked as hidden, so to see it, you need to have Explorer configured to show hidden files/folders.Alternatively (for the $NtServicePackUninstall$ folder): If you want to keep those files for later uninstall purpose you can make a backup of the folder to e.g. a CD and put it back at the time of uninstall. You can also try switching off System restore and disable hibernation (Hibernate mode writes an image of what you're currently working on to a special file on your hard drive, and then shuts your computer almost completely off). To disable Hibernation: Click Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> click Power Options.Hope this helps.

Checking this will remove these from your system (and leave those that should not be removed). Also, I do agree with Saurabh's advice to save these to removable media prior to deletion. You may obtain CCleaner from Piriform's web site:<http://www.piriform.com/>One last note, although CCleaner does an excellent job in cleaning your system of temporary Internet files, temp files, etc., I do not recommend the use of its Registry Cleaner option (or any other registry cleaner). If you're a regular user of this or any other forum or newsgroup, you know that the use of registry cleaners is not recommended; in way to many cases the cleaning of the registry causes new/serious problems!hthChet <Email removed for privacy>To reply remove SPAM NOT-- Chet
