Whether I restart or hard boot my pc I always have to do a second hard boot. XP freezes when the bootloader/ bar indicator has run for some seconds. Some times before it appears. Then I push the reset button on my case and the computer boots fine. I have to do this every time. Boot freeze->Boot OK, Boot freeze->Boot OK, Boot freeze->Boot OK, Boot freeze->Boot OK and so on.It has been like tihs allmost the whole time from i built the pc 3 years ago.Any ideas how to troubleshoot this?

If you can recreate the problem at will on every other boot, that is a good thing since if you make an adsjustment, you will know when it is fixed.We need more information and also to know what happens when it does not boot (besides it freezes).The next time you restart, ge to the XP Advances Boot Options menu by repeatedly tapping the F8 key and choose Safe Mode (with or without Networking - see what happens with both). That will let you see some display message go by as XP tries to boot and is loading various files and drivers. If you miss the F8 window of opportunity, reboot and try again.If the system hangs when booting in Safe Mode, we need to know what the last thing you see on the screen is. If it hangs, the first reaction is to try to replace whatever the last file is that you last see on the screen. That is usually not the problem though - the problem is usually going to be what comes after that file since that is where the system is hanging.
