XP doesn't see Sata Drives W7 does ?
These SATA drives one is a secondary, one is an external Image drive, and the PC's Bios also doesn't see it, when it used to.I have changed nothing in the Bios, what changed was, I changed out a CPU to a faster newer CPU dual core, and a larger Primary HD PATA, I tried to restore my clone with Acronis TI and it wouldn't see the SATA external backup drive. After trying multiple times, I finally gave up and installed W7 on the new primary, even though Bios doesn't report the SATA drives W7 does see them and accesses them fine, what would cause this?? ie Xp not seeing SATA drives when it used to1 person needs an answerI do too

Depends what mode of sata is configured in the bios, ahci or via third party controller, eg Sil

AHCI, on the Motherboard are both Gigabyte SATA ports and AHCI SATA Ports. Even with W7 seeing the drives, the Bios doesn't report them, and this is with the XP SATA drivers installed (In the XP OS), not the W7 OS.

Currently only W7 is installed, since XP will not recognize my internal nor external SATA drives, I do have the ability to access the external drive using USB, but most of my Utilities are on the internal SATA

It wasnt clear that you wished to use winxp together with win7, or instead of win7Did you perhaps update the bios with the gigabyte bios update utility, as this may be set to to reset bios settings to defaults Assuming the bios ahci are correctly configured and you have a spare hd that is conected as master if you boot from the winxp cd is the drive then available?

Initially I had a dual boot, XP pro and W7, things were fine and toasty. Then i had a bright idea to upgrade both the CPU (dual core faster speed), and a larger Primary HD, Secondary HD is a SATA. My Backup is a Acronis TI clone of the Primary Drive, A SATA/USB external drive.I removed old HD installed New (cpu/HD) hooked up my Backup drive, booted with Acronis recover disk, did not see the External SATA drive, nor the internal SATA drive, from then on things went from bad to worse. finally resorted to USB connection to restore backup, didn't work. There were other issues MB doesn't recognize more than one IDE drive, due to allowing multiple SATA drives, so I couldn't do a Two IDE drives and direct copy from old to new. Couldn't get the backup restored without errors, so gave up and installed W7 Pro new.
