XP does or does not support connections to an n router; through an older g adapter pci card..?
This might sound stupid, but I recently purchased an n router to hook up an n adapter. I cannot connect, however, to this n router [in mixed (g and n) mode.] I just need to know if there is some reason an xp media center 2005 system cannot connect to a n router. See, I ask because on my win 7 pc, with a g card, it can connect; but the 'wireless networks in range' specifically says 'n radio' about my router. I guess I just thought that maybe because of the oldness of the xp technology or the newness of the n technology, I'm getting this connection failure just due to an issue that would force me to upgrade my xp machine to vista or 7, or if I just need to buy a new adapter for my xp pc, and connect to my n router that way and be done with it. Either way, currently I have my old g router piggy backed on one wired switch on my n router, and delegated ip's of the devices and just run that way. Any way, hope to know [if xp supports 802.11n or not] soon. Thanks.2 people need an answerI do too

Windows XP doesn't determine what wireless protocol you can use. The computer's wireless network adapter does that. You might have to update the wireless adapter's driver program or replace the adapter with a new one.Boulder Computer Maven Microsoft Most Valuable Professional

I realize this is an old post, but I'm hoping someone will see my reply anyway. I have a wireless network with two machines; one XP and one Vista. The network is fine, but speeds are very slow. I'd like to take advantage of the 802.11n network driver on my XP machine to increase my Dlink router's throughput. I can't find the driver anywhere. Right now, I'm stuck with 802.11g on both machines. Can anyone tell me where I can download the n driver? Thanks for anyone who might be listening. mocean
