XP desktop and vista laptop on the same workgroup and wireless router can't see each other
I am new to this site but I have read almost all the fixes for this problem. When I first got the vista laptop I setup a workgroup and share my files and a printer setup an account for my wife on my xp desktop and everything was fine she could see me on in her network folder and log in to my system and print. that was last Febuary now she can't see me on the network and I can't see myself on the network on my own computer? I checked the router and recycled it and tried loading the LLtd protocol and disabled my mcafee firewall made sure file and print sharieng was turn on in the windows firewall. The only way I could see my self was to load the NWLINK protocol but you shouldnot have to do this. the vista laptop has both IPV4 and IPV6 loaded and the LLTD.both of us have file and print shareing turn on in the network connection propertiesfor the network adapters. I am at a lost for what has changed on our computers and why I can't see my self out on the Microsoft network under the Workgroup name? If anyone can shed some lite at the end of the tunnel that would be great. Thanks, bmoortell@comcast.net

Hello bmoortell, Thank you for your post! First, check the Mcafee Firewall and make sure it properly configured before we go any further. Sometimes disabling doesn't always work. Some third party programs ask that you add the ip addresses from the computers in the Trusted Zone tab. Check Mcafee for further details. If all else fails, you can try temporarily uninstalling the program while troubleshooting. http://www.mcafee.com/us/ -- Eric Cross Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com

If you can provide the ipconfig/all output on both computers we might be able further diagnose the issue. To do so, please perform the following steps: 1. On Windows Vista machine, click Start, click Programs, click Accessories, and then click Command Prompt. 2. At the Command Prompt window type: ipconfig/all 3. Click the iconin the menu bar on the left, click Edit, thenclickSelect All. 4. Click on the icon again, and choose Copy. 5. Then paste the ouput into your next reply. -- Eric Cross Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com
