XP compatibility mode in Win 7 for legacy HP G85 All-in-One software
I am currently running Vista Home Premium x64, which seems to have both 32 bit and 64 bit program capability. HP does not support the original WinXP application software, and I have not been able to get the install program to run and install under Vista. Vista has printer drivers that work if the G85 is connected as a printer, but I can not get any of HP's installation to run, even running as administrator and using XP compatibility mode. As a result, I can not use the original applications, such as Director.exe, and the associated scanning, fax and character recognition software. I see that Win 7 has an XP compatibility mode. Does anyone know the extent of the capability of the XP mode with regard to applications designed for XP? The original software also supports older operating systems, such as Win ME and 2000. Is Win 7 the only option I have to be able to use the original software, or would that even work?

Hi, I find that Windows Vista have got the basic driver for G85. And if you want to have further functions such as photo editing, organizing, printing and sharing, you can download HP Photosmart Essential software here: http://www.hp.com/united-states/consumer/digital_photography/free/software/index.html?jumpid=ex_R602_go/pse After installing the program, you will be able to realize some of the functions. Besides, I have installed the driver for Windows XP on my own computer. My computer is Win7 Ultimate 32 bit. It can compatible with all Windows series from Windows 95. But since yours is 64 bit, windows doesn't support update from 64 bit to 32 bit. So you have to take a clean install to Win7 32 bit. That may cause the loss of your data. You should back up the data before installation. By the way, I can't catch the meaning of your XP mode. Does that mean "XP compatible mode" or just "XP mode"?You can have a try. Pls feel free to let me know if there are some other problems.
