XP MODE Adds / Virtual PC adds a bad default route 0.0.0.0 On-Link
After installing XP Mode on a Windows 7 Pro machine it keeps adding a bad route IPv4 Route Table===========================================================================Active Routes:Network Destination Netmask Gateway Interface Metric 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 On-link 192.168.1.61 20 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.61 21If I disable Virtual PC and restrart the routing is right and everything works. IPv4 Route Table===========================================================================Active Routes:Network Destination Netmask Gateway Interface Metric 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.61 20When I reable the Virtual PC it re-adds the bad route. I can do a "route delete 0.0.0.0" then a "route add 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1" or an "ipconfig /release" and a "ipconfig /renew" and everything works fine.But once I restart or disable and reable the XP Mode it starts happinging again. Hi, I have also testes this on my Windows 7 test machine which has a Windows XP Mode installed; however, I could not find the route here. In settings of Windows XP Mode, I found there are 4 types of connection status, Not connected, Internal Network, Shared Networking (NAT) and your physical network interface. I have a Win 7 Ultimate PC that we had to reload today. After reloading Win 7 everything was fine and was able to go to the net and get MS Secrutiy Essentials. After Iinstall MS SE I let the machine run all pending updates. Then rebooted the machine. And since the reboot I am getting this same issue. Whenever the PC reboots it can get to everything on the LAN, but cannot get out to the net. I ranipconfig/all and everything looked OK except that default gateway showed 0.0.0.0 and 192.168.1.254. So I ran route print and I saw the same thing that you were getting. 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 On-Link . I can delete this route, renew the DHCP lease and the correct route appears (0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254). But rebooting the machine causes the route to revert back to 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 On-Link The machine does not have XP Compatabilty Mode or Virtual PC loaded on it. These are the only two things that I have been able to find on Google that cause this issue in WIndows 7. I have setup a batch file to run at startup as you described, and this works as a temporary fix. But I would like to find the cause and fix it. Have you found any thing else out about the issue?

No, I have not found the cause yet. I am still looking. I have 2 other machines that it started happening on both are running Windows 7 Ulitmate, one is a Dell with a Broadcom card and the other is an HP with a Intel nic. I have other machines running pro and home and I do not see this on them. Maybe Ultimate is the culprit? Moses Hull of Alexant Systems

I found a a post on Expert's Exchange that deals with this problem in Vista. I am going to look at the registry of my problem machine tomorrow for the empty values and maybe try the netsh winsock reset, if it works in Win 7.
