XP Logs off As Soon as I Log On
I have a problem with the sign on. WHen Ienter me credential on sign in screen for XP it immediatelylogs me back off. I saw a response to similar question which suggested going to Safe Mode to boot. When I went to safe mode it no longer accepted my user name and password. This occurred after I had just downloaded my new Norton 360. I got a security report that "Sonar" had detected a treat that was named. I didn't capture it but it was an ".exe" file. After I authorized the system to remove the threat I got a message that I needed to restart to finish removal. I hit restart and could not get out of the that loop. HELP!!1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi mike20407, Thank you for taking the time to post. It is very possible you were and or are infected. Just a guess as we do not know what Norton caught, except for the .exe part, which could have been your userinit.exe file. If you are still having the issue, you can try the following out. Copy the userinit.exe from another computer ( use a CD/Floppy/Flash drive) Boot off the Windows XP CD (On the system that is logging you off) Enter the Recovery Console Once in the Recovery Console you will need to copy the userinit.exe file that you copied earlier onto the system we are having trouble with to replace the missing or corrupted file, if you are prompted go ahead and overwrite. The userinit.exe should be located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder and thats where you will place the new file.
