XP Home Edition Backup Without XP CD
I would like to Backup my Dell computer using XP Home Edition but do not have the XP CD because the operating system was installed when I purchased the computer. The Windows instructions indicate that you need the CD to download the Backup program. Can Backup be downloaded online or is there some other way to easily backup the computer to an external hard drive?1 person needs an answerI do too

You're on the right track and pardon me for telling you stuff you already know:The Backup program is installed automatically on XP Professional, but not on XP Home. If you have the genuine bootable XP Home installation CD, insert it into your system and browse to this folder:\ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUPDouble click the ntbackup.msi file to begin the installation. Here is a nice Microsoft article that tells you all about it:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302894Here is another article that tells you how to do it:http://www.winxptutor.com/ntbackup.htmIf you don't have an installation CD and need to download the ntbackup.msi file, here is the link:http://www.winxptutor.com/ntbackup.htmDo, or do not. There is no try.I decided to save up points for a new puppy instead of a pony!

There are lots of better choices, and the one I recommend isAcronis True Image.Ken Blake (MS MVP)

there are different methodologies for preserving your data. since you have xp pre-installed, then it means that you likely have the factory restore feature. because of this, you may not really need to make a system backup, since old fashion backups are unreliable and can also preserve malware and infections. if you want to know about alternatives, dont hesitate to ask. -- db`...><)))> ."RobertJabow" wrote in message news:50e27ec5-cdbc-49a7-82ae-e06405c24142...I would like to Backup my Dell computer using XP Home Edition but do not have the XP CD because the operating system was installed when I purchased the computer.
