XP Home/XP Pro Networking
I'm trying to get file sharing between a XP Home and XP Pro pc's. On the Pro pc, I have no trouble access the Home pc's files. From the Home pc, I can see the Pro's shared folders, I get this message: You may not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. I have file sharing turned on in both pc's, there is no software firewall on either pc. I followed the steps on this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304040. but no luck.1 person needs an answerI do too

In XP Professional you may have to turn off Simple File Sharing in Folder Options > View Tab > Advanced Settings at the end.

Try this, open a Run window (Windows key+R), type regedit and press Enter. In the left pane navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa.In the right pane, double-click restrictanonymous and make sure that the value in the Value data box is 0 (zero).Create a system restore point first just in case anything goes wrong during the registry updating.

Oh dear, we’re not moving very far forward. Here are a few things to try. You may have tried some of them already and some may not apply to you. Have a look through the list and check out those that may relate to your situation/circumstances:1. Turn off any firewall that is running and run your antivirus software to ensure the PC is clean.2. In Administrative Tools > Services, make sure the Server service has been started and is set to Automatic.3. Can you browse to the shared folders by typing \\computer name\shared folder name into the Address bar of an Explorer window?4. Have you tried ‘unsharing’, then sharing the files again and then rebooting. Has the little hand appeared on the icon of the shared folder(s)?5. This may help if you cannot enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. In a Run window (Windows key+R), type regedit, press Enter and in the left pane navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters. In the right pane double-click TransportBindName and make sure it contains \Device\ (note the two backslashes) and click OK. Restart the computer.6. Check the account you are using has Administrator’s privileges by going to a Run window (Windows key+R), type control userpasswords2 (note the space) and press Enter. (If you intend to change anything create a system restore point first, just in case you get locked out). Highlight your Username and check if you are an administrator. If not click Properties, Group Membership and make yourself an administrator. Use this account to set up file-sharing.7. Have a look in Event Viewer > System and check if there are any errors (if so follow them up).8. In a Run window (Windows key+R), type cmd and press Enter. Type net user guest and press Enter. Can you see account active = yes? If not, type net user guest /active:yes (note the three spaces).9. In the actual folders you wish to share, you will need to have 'Everyone' in the Security Tab. Once entered you need to double-click on it and put the tick in the box to allow everyone.Good luck.

From the Home PC, I can see the shared folders on Pro, just can't access any files. When I got the PC, there was already a user named Admin. On the Home PC, when I try to access a file in the cannot access mesage the user is Admin. I don't know the password for that username. In the user accounts properties, it does not allow me to reset the Admin password.I enable NetBios before with no luck. There are sveral "irpstacksiz" errors in the event viewer. There is no Sceurity Tab for the Shared FoldersFirewall is offService Server is startedThe little hand is on the Shared folders. I've tried rebooting
