XP 32-bit Home Edition not detecting on-board lan port
Need to know why XP OS service pack 3 does not detect Marvell on-board lan port any longer?? Port no longer emits blinking green light as use to when entering OS after service pack 3. Prior to entering OS from a powered off to power on state port light blinks once telling me bios detects it. When enter device manager shows Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller device working, Ver 11.27.1.3, date 6/14/2010, IRQ 21. Marvell Miniport software good, driver good so why doesn't it work and why do I receive a misinforming message cable unplugged. Something wrong with registery, this I am sure of thanks to service pack 3 I guess. Microsoft no longer supports sp2 then screw up my lan connection by forcing service pack 3. What kind of support can I expect with windows 7?? Not happy!!! How do I know service pack 3 didn't cause my problem. Worked before service pack 3. Cannot tell I only know the only way I am able to connect to the internet through my Motorola Surfboard SB5101 usb cable modem now is by using the usb cable connection where before all of this ____ my ethernet connection worked fine. Also I have never received so many Microsoft Security updates like I have with XP 32-bit Home Edition. If the system is that insecure why don't you re-imburse customers their money for buying such a system. I was under the impression service pack three was suppose to fix things not break things. What is the customer suppose to do. I myself am getting sick and tired of having to buy a new os. I mean come on how many Microsoft operating systems are out?? I just want one that works!!!!1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi Jack,First I bought win 95 then it was no longer supported, then I bought win98, then I bought win 98 2nd edition until it was no longer supported then I bought win xp OEM 32-bit home edition sp2. win xp sp2 then about 40 kb files later you come up with sp3 for whatever reason. Now my on board ethernet connection does not work and I have no clue why? When I run netdiag the program tells me system is win 2000 an lists about 40 kb files. I originally bought oem 2002 sp 2 on cd. I set automatic updates on like recommended. Never had a problem until sp3 installed. I would remove but add/remove programs in control panel does not give me that option. So I don't get it this SP3 is helping me how???? I know my ethernet port is detected by bios but I am sure at a loss why operating system does not detect ethernet port any longer. I have done everything I can think of and followed all instructions given but what I receive is cable unplugged message for ethernet connection and media disconnected when I do cmd ipconfig /all. I will have to admit I have been a tech for 30 years and have connected 1,000's of desktops and laptops to networks of all kinds. So I am very versed in how TCPIP works but now I am retired. I am not and never have been a programmer and the registery is getting out of my league so I don't know what has happen or why it has happen but if I was a betting man I would bet the problem lies in the registery. Use to correct win.ini, system.ini, autoexec.bat or config.sys and problem solved. At least you had some kind of control not any more. I have Norton Anti Virus 2010 on my computer and I have never had a virus. System properties shows Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3 76447-OEM-0071992-82274. I have uninstalled and installed driver for marvel 8001 on board lan numerous times straight from Marvel Home website but result is always same. XP shows no yellow or red marks. Device shows working, no conflicts yet show on taskbar lan connection cable unplugged with red x. Do cmd ipconfig /all and receive media disconnected, does show correct mac address of on board lan port. I have downloaded the motherboard lan port driver from the gigabyte site where I bought the motherboard and will install to see if that works.
