I have the same problem described in this thread Vista Home Premium can see and browse drives, folders and files on XP Pro PC as you would expect. XP Pro can see Vista Home Premium drives but access is denied to all but the PUBLIC folder. i.e. I can see but not access the Vista C: drive. Environment is a simple home network (workgroup). Here is the step by step process I used to fix this: All steps are performed on the Vista MachineOpen Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) RIGHT Click the drive of interest on the left side of the Explorer window and Click PROPERTIES (Turn on Sharing in the SHARING Tab if it does not show the drive as shared. Use ADVANCED SHARING to turn it on) Select SECURITY Select EDIT Select ADD and enter an object named Everyone (w/o quotes), click OK. Everyone - should now appear in your Group or user names list. With Everyone highlighted on the Security Tab click to check each permission level you wish to provide for example FULL. I checked all except Special Permissions which was not selectable. Click APPLY, YES and as prompted CONTINUE until completed (about 12 times for my system) Click OK Click OK You should now be able to access this drive, folders & files from the XP Pro machine. I did not reboot. Prior to this I had turned off the Simple File Sharing on the XP machine and the File Sharing Wizard on the Vista Machine.
