XP-Vista networking
hey guys,I have a desktop with XP home and a laptop with Vista .... I can access my laptop from desktop but i can't access XP from my laptop... it says " path not found".. but i can transfer from my desktop to my lappii...I think my Vista lappii is not able to see the XP .. I have assigned a static IP's to both of them...Another thing is I can't get through ICS also.... on my desktop I have 2 ethernet cards and 1 is connected to Internet while other to the lappii...I have put them into share but in Vista in the network section it is showing a Residential Gateway Device... and Iam not able to configure it... on looking to its properties i see nothing and it asks me to add things ... eg. http [name] IP of host [] internal port no. and external port no.whatever i enter it says port is not allowed by the gateway ....Please kindly anyone help me to get through these 2 problems...thanks

hello first, if you want to use ICS two ethernet cardhave not able to static ip addresses. first for you should check laptop throught desktop ethernet card it should be use client for a microsoft networks, if twice computer is able to see. second foryou should check network cardproperties (which connect to the internet) (which use the ICS) enable ICS and laptop ethernet card have dinamic ip adress than it should be able to 192.168.0.2 like that, like it assign DHCP. if ICS enabled other ethernet card assign 192.168.0.1 ip adress. 2 computer correctly will see this two action after ...

well thanx buddy...I just got through my problem .... actually my laptop was not seeing the desktop so that means the client was not able to see the host and it was only due to the firewall settings...Here is the complete way of setting a network between XP and Vista through which I am using both the things perfectly is-do the following steps-step1- on the XP first download an update for your windows..i.e of LLTD link layer topology discovery from the windows microsoft's site... install the update and change the settings in local_machine registry get this way- run regedit.exe > hkey_local_machine > system > currentcontrolset > control > lsa >and here find the restrictanonymous and change its value to 0 and then find restrictanonymoussam and change its value to 1.The above step enables Vista to see the XP and shows the full map of the network when you connect the two.step2- On doing the above step now or before step 1 connect the two machines and assign them the addresses [static IPsss]static ip in the sense -assign 192.168.xxx.xxx to the host and to the client the ip address should be assigned in the same series...eg. on host 192.168.2.1 so on client 192.168.2.2remember the client's IP and on the host if you are using any anti-virus software then configure it to trust your clients IP.having set on XP to share the internet and configuuring the firewalls you may now use the ICS and LAN both at the same time.[Do remember to have the same workgroup]SG735.
